Growing Up

Here it comes - I'm going to admit a weakness here -
Our basement is finished!! Well - finished enough for the boys to move down now anyway. After endless hours of manpower my husband conquered!! I am so proud of that guy!! (It was ALMOST worth the trip to Menard's - see a previous post for that story!!) Anyway - we spent many hours last night moving our boys down to their new rooms - all three are sharing two rooms now instead of one! They are thrilled - couldn't be more excited - it was so fun! But, here comes the weakness - I was trying to get to sleep last night lying there in my bed with tears streaming down my face - good grief!!! They are only in the basement - what am I going to do when they leave for college for Heaven's sake?!?!? I just can't believe they are really old enough to be alone downstairs and then LIKE it!!! Wasn't it just yesterday that I had three babies 3 and under and felt like I may not even make it out of that mess?!!??! God is good - He gets us through it and even makes us want to do it all again!!

The good side?? When I went down this morning - they all had their beds made - completely picked up their rooms and said, "Mom, we want to keep it this neat FOREVER!!!!" I'll take it!!!

Yep, they are growing up but don't count on the clean rooms forever. ;) You can take comfort in the numbers of kids that move out and return home OR you can take it from me that by the time they leave, you want them to go. Nuff said.

They are growing up that is for sure.
I am sure they feel all grown up sleeping in the basement. How fun for them.

Bless your heart!

Basement bedrooms DO have their advantages...if your boys are slow to go to sleep and tend to get all giggly, the noise probably won't wake you up. Whenever my daughter has friends over for the night, she LOVES to get to claim the basement...and I like that they can be noisy without it keeping their daddy awake all night.

Oh, and, by the way...YOU'VE BEEN TAGGED!

Oh how I would LOVE a basement! California doesn't really allow them though. Certainly not the kind you all have in the Midwest. My SIL has one in her home in Minnesota and it's great for a huge play area for the kids and still have a nice neat home. My kids are getting a playroom/homeschool room which will double as a guest room (we're still in process of remodeling it). When we were thinking of moving to MN, I found the perfect home with a fantastic mudroom and a large basement with a guest room and full guest bath. Fabulous!

Peter (7) is growing up so fast too. Today I watched with pride and sadness as he was such a big boy and returned a video to the library while I sat in the car with Caroline and watched him from the window.

Glad to hear your basement is done and ready to go. Your boys are growing into wonderful children. They are lucky to have a great mom like YOU!! :)

I know how you feel.....or I will! We will be moving Emmie downstairs as well. And when I think that she will only be here 5 more years until college, it nearly makes me sick to my stomach. Don't worry Mama....your boys still need you! ;)

You are such a great mom, Becky!
I can picture you weepin away -- I would be doing the same thing. It doesn't matter how old they get, they will always be your babies.
They sound like such great kids, too, they will do so well down there!
Good job gettin it done, Joe!

I know how you are feeling. I keep thinking about how little time I have left with Zach before he leaves for college. He will grow up and move on into manhood, but I will be missing my boy.

When you are harvesting your crops and forget to bring in a bundle of grain from your field, don't go back to get it. Leave it for the foreigners, orphans and widows. Then the LORD your God will bless you in all you do.
