Joe Needs to Come Home

Joe has been gone since early Tuesday morning and isn't home yet - we miss him for many reasons but I found one BIG reason he needs to come home RIGHT NOW!!! We are having a big thaw here - everything is melting - so I went outside today to get the mail and I look down and see blood - hmmm, I thought that was odd so I looked around some more - yuck - there was squirrel fur - another glance yucky squirrel body parts - looked farther - I KID YOU NOT - LOTS of squirrel body parts - I'm thinking maybe three or four squirrel bodies scattered all over under all of that snow and now laying right in front of my door. Now, I'm the woman who wanted to be a mortician AND I love to dissect things too, but there is something different about mangled animal parts lying all over!! I'm thinking FIRST I will give Joe a hug when he gets home BUT THEN I will hand him a shovel and send him on a burial mission!!! So, I'm sharing this in case you happen to stop over before Joe gets home - don't think I'm a poor housekeeper/yardkeeper - it's just a squirrel war zone over here!

EEEEEWWW!
That is just disgusting.
It would happen when Joe is out of town, isn't that the way it always goes?
When does he get home?

YUCK! That's one thing I hate about living in the "country" is that there are dead animals on the road every single day. So grateful to have them on the road and not on my doorstep!

I guess if I were a good friend I would rush over and clean it up for you. Call if you want the help.

Yuck!
Do you know what's killing them? Are they killing each other?
I grew up as an Air Force brat, so I can relate to you missing your husband. Hang in there!

Becky. that is nasty.

Sorry - it is nasty - not a pleasant post - but I was hoping someone may play Sherlock Holmes and solve the mystery for me!!! :)

Ok - I just went back out to get the mail and did some sleuthing (just call me Nancy Drew!!). Now - I am NOT lying - there are no squirrels anymore - only one VERY LARGE dead rabbit - WHAT IS GOING ON?!?!? All traces of the squirrels are gone - except some fur here and there - now it's one VERY large bunny - nope, rest assured, it's not Hopper - he's sitting in Chloe's room!!!

Ugh...
Growing up we had a dog that would put his "trophies" on our front deck. Maybe you have a dog around trying to make you proud? :/

Becky, I can tell you are not from the south or a cook because you would just head right out there and make some road/yard kill stew for supper!!! ;)

Beckyb said...

Shoot Verna - he's missing his eyes or we could have had Rabbit Eye Stew for dinner!!! This is getting WAY TOO GROSS, isn't it?!?!?

Just wait long enough and the rabbit will be gone too!!! I have an idea, next time you go outside to get the mail just keep your eyes focused on the mailbox, that's what I would do!

Is there a cat wandering the neighborhood.

Or some evil neighbor kids??? c'mon I'm sure the faces you are making when you see these "gems" would be pretty rewarding to a hoodlum.

Good point - tomorrow when there's a giant dead bear there - I won't even bat an eye!!!! My story hour kids told me it was a Mountain Lion - hmmmmmmm

Hopefully it won't get bigger and bigger. You know, first squirrels, then rabbits, then horses, etc. Where do you live anyway? :)

My husband Joe was away for the last few days, but luckily there wasn't a squirrel killing outside my house!

I hate it when my husband is out of town, too...never had to deal with dead animal body parts, though. That really is odd...you would think if it were coyotes or a mountain lion they would drag their kills away and eat them in peace...sounds more like joy hunting to me....cat?...dog?...

Or maybe you've stepped into a Stephen King novel and this is just a gentle prelude!

If I were to guess...I'd say it was an Owl. You guys have those big evergreen trees that owls love to hang out in. Owls tend to drop the "spare" parts and eat the main torso unless the animal is small enough to eat whole. Then (I'm guessing again!) a neighborhood cat came along and took the misc. squirrel parts home. I'm not sure about the rabbit..maybe the owl dropped it?

Beckyb said...

Joel - I much prefer thinking Owl than mountain lion or coyote!!! I'll think that way!!! No more new parts lately anyway - whew!!!!

When you are harvesting your crops and forget to bring in a bundle of grain from your field, don't go back to get it. Leave it for the foreigners, orphans and widows. Then the LORD your God will bless you in all you do.
