News

Well - I got news this week - not the kind of news I'd like - but it's news so thought I'd share it. I must preface this by saying that I have quite the teeth - only one cavity in my 30 plus years - 8 years of braces - you get the picture - I take good care of my teeth - when I go for a cleaning, I never expect to be told I have a cavity, etc., etc. So imagine my surprise when, a few months ago, the dentist tells me that I have a tooth that has decay UNDERNEATH of it - now six months later, the dentist has tried some "clever" ways to fix it, and has decided that it isn't working so - guess what, he says the last resort is a root canal! Can you just feel my pain??? Not only are we talking two - three appointments of two hours each (in my NOT-favorite place in the world) but we are also talking some of the MOST EXPENSIVE dental work you can have done. LOVELY!! I am praying for a tooth fairy - anything to save me before I must face the dreaded ROOT CANAL! I am trying to smile, but after all of that digging around, now it hurts!

Well Becky, I've had a couple of root canals with crowns. I didn't think the root canal was that bad. I disliked the crown work the most. I know what you are saying, it hits the pocket book pretty hard! Yup, it is spendy. Hey, can I read between the lines and wonder if you would rather have a mammogram than this!!! Ha... couldn't resist typing that. :)

Ouch .. feel your pain. I had my front teeth knocked out by a softball in high school. I had 4 root canals in my front 4 teeth. I really dislike the dentist now!

I feel your pain. I was just at the dentist today, luckily just for a cleaning and check up, but it still hurt, somewhat. But Root Canal, sorry.

Well not THE most expensive - that would be the implant I just had done at a cost of a little under $3000 (insurance will pay less than half, sigh). I have horrible teeth and have had tons of root canals. I have THE best endodontist who does them in ONE approx. 2 hour appointment with no pain or anything, not bad at all really. Is that an option for you?

This was my first (and probably not last) implant I've ever had done and the first tooth I ever had pulled.

Hate to tell you too, but you'll need a crown over that root canal at some point. :-(

Ouch! I'm such a wimp at the dentist. I HATE dental work! Thankfully I've never had a crown or a root canal. Hope you have good dental insurance and an iPod to listen to while they're drilling!

I have spent my entire life dealing with my teeth. I take extremely good care of them, but still have had too many cavities, 2 root canals and 3 crowns, one which just recently had to be replaced. I'm a tooth grinder, so I've caused major damage to my teeth. Yet, I still take very good care of the, because imagine what condition they would be in if I didn't.

Ouch, sorry- they do suck. And I take excellent care of my teeth too but have had several cavities, that is often a genetic thing (in my case, the shape of my teeth makes me more prone).

Good luck. I've only had 1 and hope to never have another :O)

Not a great experience for me. I had a root canal and a crown, and still ended up losing the tooth. But these days, a good dentist can perform miracles. Good luck......

First,

I love your new look!! it is beautiful!!!

Secondly,

I am like you---I am 40 and have never had a cavity. Wore braces and take very good care of my teeth. The hygenist alwayes raves about my teeth. But I was having jaw pain and they told me I needed a root canal! I had the root canal and it turned out my tooth was FINE. It was a mistake! I was SO mad. All that $$$ and time for nothing.

I will pray for healing in your tooth and your wallet> LOL!

Becky,
I feel your pain. I had skin grafting in October as I brushed my teeth way too hard (I'm a scrubber) kitchens, bathrooms and teeth.. I did not go with the gas, instead opted for a low dose of anti anxiety pill and that did the trick for me. It is the anxiousness that builds before a procedure that is worse for me. I did well with the 11 shots and everything. Then only needed pain meds the first couple of days at bedtime. Hope all goes well! KristiHend
