BLIZZARD

Just in case anyone is worried for me - you have good reason - I nearly died a million times this morning - ok, not a million but at least two!!! Yep, the weather man was correct AGAIN - this is the WORST storm we have seen in at least a decade. It started yesterday with freezing rain, turned to snow and snowed all night - is STILL snowing - and should continue through tomorrow evening. Now, the winds are picking up and they are claiming blizzard conditions. I'd say we have close to a foot of snow now already and another 6-7 inches are still to come. All of our major highways are closed, our whole downtown is closed (except the library - but it is to close in a couple of hours) - even our hospital is closed except for emergencies. SO - I have to go to work - I'm thinking - I'm in town, no sweat - in fact, Joe said it was even fine enough to get a coffee. So- I go to our local coffee shop - take the drive through - get my coffee - now the trick - the drive through is uphill - duh, why didn't I think of that BEFORE?!?!? So - I attempt the exit - twice - no way this van is going up that hill - I back out of the drive through - yes, for those of you who know how I back up, that was a feat!! Ok, out of that parking lot - I make it to the library - now the library has a slight incline to make it into their parking lot - I tried twice - ended up sliding back out into traffic both time - oh yes, traffic AND honking - give me a break, like I would purposefully back out into traffic!!! So - I tried TWO more times to get in - finally, the last time, I gave it all the van's got - I never let up on the gas and gunned my way into that lot - I MADE IT!!! Yeah, I made it all right - who knew if I'd get out though in four hours!!

Yep, four hours later - I go out to get into my van - which you can hardly see because of all the snow and blowing - but you also can't see the sidewalk - totally misjudged that one too and ended up on my butt sitting in the parking lot. Oh man, I was just waiting for candid camera! I did manage to get home - had to take two runs to get up my very small road and then FIVE runs to get into the driveway, which Joe had snowblowed just an hour before!!! I made it in, shut the garage door, and prayed that my family hadn't seen me. Whew - they were all eating and missed the whole show.

Needless to say, doubt I'll be going anywhere for a day or two!! The library IS closing, the groceries stores are locking up, they are calling all the plows in and where are my boys?????? Out in the snow of course, now mind you, I did warn them of the blizzard where many children died (I had to do it - I'm reading that book RIGHT NOW and I couldn't let them go out unaware!!!). So they are properly prepared and have strict instructions to STAY TOGETHER - they think I'm a nut!!! :)

Lest you think I'm complaining - not me - I LOVE this stuff - BRING IT ON!!! But just let me stay home now - that was enough adventure for one day!! (or for one WINTER!!!)

I hear you Becky. First it took me about 15 minutes tio get the snow cleared off my car in drifts almost up to my knees (well at least half way to them). Then it was onto the streets, the plows have been out however as you well know the intersections are not nice. You cannot see in town (think of what it must be in the wide open.)I got to my house saw the drifts in my driveway and the bank of snow from the plows. I backed up into the alley across the street aimed for my driveway. shut my eyes (kinda) and floored it.I made it into the garage. I think my car will be there for a while, looks like I will be walking to work tomorrow at 5:30 a.m.
But i do still like it it is so pretty outside.

OK, although we have had really beautiful weather here, and we are enjoying our time at the parks, I'm still jealous. I've never lived anywhere that got snow like that. Oh to be bundled up inside with layers of snow covering everything outside. What a wonderful sight to look out your window and see that. Sigh....

Hi Becky,
I am new to your blog, and have really enjoyed it. I, too, have three home grown boys and are getting ready to adopt from China. I had to laugh at this entry and just can't help but to tell you that it is about 70 degrees and wonderfully sunny here! I'm sorry, was that cruel? You can definitely get me back when we are suffocating in the horrible heat and humidity this summer! Hope you get to cozy up with your kids tomorrow.

WOW -- my boys would be in HEAVEN!!! We've had a few SMALL snowfalls this year, but they were hoping for the REALLY big one! Thanks so much for leaving a comment on my blog. How great that you know the Whitt's!! Jeff's parents live in the area so we are really looking forward to getting Oakley and Caeleigh together this summer. Best of luck to you and your family -- your children are BEAUTIFUL!

Yes Gwen - I wondered too - what idiots are out at the LIBRARY of all places - but there were TONS of people this morning getting MOVIES, of course, what else can you do when there is a blizzard??!?!

Sounds like FUN to me! You didn't make the boys tie themselves together with a rope, did you?? Wasn't there a Little House on the Prairie episode about that?? LOL! Have fun and enjoy the snow. It's just pouring here!

Beckyb said...

That's funny Jen - I was going to say that I made them all hang onto a rope but I figured no one would know what I meant!!!

When you are harvesting your crops and forget to bring in a bundle of grain from your field, don't go back to get it. Leave it for the foreigners, orphans and widows. Then the LORD your God will bless you in all you do.
