Sept. 13 - Shanghai

We are real party animals - I have to tell you - we give up THIS

to go to bed at 9!!! But it's working - we are starting to feel better all day now - not so tired!
Today was a lot more sightseeing.
We went to this incredibly tall building -

Yep, I am referring to that tall pointy one there - we went to the top ball - that little one WAY up there. 270+ stories - and then we got out of the elevator and stepped on this glass floor to look down. NOT my thing - I am deathly afraid of heights - but once again, I stretched myself.Those are Joe's lovely feet - he was MUCH braver than I - but I eventually took a deep breath and stepped out - hope I don't look too scared!Then we went on a river cruise. The sights were amazing - what a city this is!!
We went to see a silkworm/silk factory....
Joe got in on some of the silk stretching action - they wanted to hire him! Watch out Interstates!
Our greatest feat for the day - aside from lunch!?!?! (Just kidding!!) Well it had to be crossing 8 lanes of traffic - no guide. We just follow the natives!!! But we are a bit proud of ourselves since pedestrians DO NOT have the right of way in China!Tonight is the Shanghai Circus Acrobats show - that should be fun.

Sept. 12 In Shanghai

Greetings from the travellers in Shanghai!!

Well - I slept ALMOST all night - only woke up for one hour at 2:30 and hopped on the internet and then went back to bed - not too bad, I didn't think! But I was glad I did sleep because we have had a busy day sightseeing and it's only 2 pm here!!

Here is our hotel - the dark one in the middle - Park Hotel. It's an older hotel but is beautiful and has a lot of character. AND it's in the heart of downtown - we just love to go out walking down here.






We started our day with the Shanghai Museum - what a gorgeous (and very large) museum - 4 floors of the history of Shanghai and artifacts of it's past - right up Joe's alley - he loved it!
Then we headed to Yuyuan Garden and a Jade factory. The gardens were beautiful - very fun for me as I went to the Chinese Gardens in Portland and I can see where Portland modeled theirs after this same garden. And the Jade factory was so interesting as well - lots to see there as you could watch the people carving the jade. We are so impressed with Shanghai - we are enjoying it a lot. One more day of sightseeing here and then on to Nanjing.









So, what are we eating you might ask?? Becky did branch out and have eggs and pastries for breakfast - while Joe was eating anything on the buffet - anything didn't move, that is! For lunch, well, Joe caved and agreed to Subway - here is the proof. Now that might mean Becky has to give in and eat "local" for supper!!
